Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri has again called for nominations to the Domain Name Authority (DNA) for a period of 12 days from April 14.
In a statement on Saturday, department spokesperson Sello Matsabu said: "The minister has made this decision after accepting the advice of the Independent Selection Panel for the DNA that the call for nominations be re-opened."
The DNA would play a crucial role in the administration and operation of the .za domain name on the Internet.
The Selection Panel was appointed by the minister in terms of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
"It is hoped that the re-opening will result in additional suitable candidates being put forward and will allow for greater public participation in the nomination process," he said.

"This will ensure that all the requirements stipulated in the Act are adhered to and that the process of appointing the DNA cannot be contested on administrative grounds.
"The panel has also recommended that previously submitted nominations be considered."
Matsabu also said the minister was confident that the process of setting up the DNA would be finalised within the 12-month period that is stipulated in the Act. - Sapa
