Mandla Msomi, 23, the youngest son of playwright and director, Welcome Msomi, and actress Thuli Dumakude, died in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Mandla already considered by many as an "established performer and entertainer" was born in New York City and brought up in Brooklyn, New York.
At 16 months, Mandla made his stage debut when he played the drums in the iZulu Dance Theatre founded by his parents. He went on to perform in his father's productions of Off Broadway, Halala.
Mandla was four years old and performing in Halala when he was spotted by Broadway director, Harold Prince, who offered him an audition for a part in the Broadway production of Roza.

His audition was successful and by five years old he was a "Broadway star". Acting in Roza, he toured several theatres on the East and West Coast of the United States of America, sharing the spotlight with the likes of Georgia Brown and Bob Gunton.
He had travelled extensively with his mother and had lived in London, Australia, Canada, South Africa and all over the United States.
Returning to South Africa, Mandla spent four years at Michaelhouse School in KwaZulu-Natal, and following his matriculation focused on the creation of music for various groups and individuals.
His recent work included the creation and production of a number of tracks for Lebo Mathosa's new album. He had also worked with other artists including TK, Mizchif, Shimane, Selwyn, Zoe & SK, Ringo Madlingozi, Pebbles, Latoya and Ayanda.
He leaves behind his parents and siblings, S'bu, Pam, Themba and Victor.
A vigil will be held on Wednesday, May 26 at E614, Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal from 6.30pm.
The funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 27 at the St Augustine's Church, Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal at 9am. He will be buried after the service at the Umlazi Cemetery. - Sapa
