Bangkok - The owner of a cooking-gas company in Bangkok who dressed his employees in Spider-Man suits to stimulate business was foiled on Tuesday by lawyers for the masked web-crawler's American copyright holder.
Company owner Narongwit Suthiviriyakul was zapped with a warning from lawyers representing Marvel Enterprises' authorised Thai agent, Bongkoch Publishing Company, and told to stop dressing his delivery men in Spiderman outfits or face legal action.
Narongwit said the gimmick had nearly doubled his business in the 10 days his delivery men had been wearing the red and blue Spiderman outfits. He had 14 of them specially made for about R700 each.

"I loved the Spiderman comic books and I loved the Spiderman movie," Narongwit said. "But I'll stop if I have to. I don't want to get in trouble with the authorised agent. Maybe I'll create my own cartoon character to attract customers."
'We advised him to use monkey suits because monkeys don't have intellectual property rights' Bongkoch Publishing Company licensing manager Sirijan Phipitrangsee said the New York-based copyright holders planned no legal action against Narongwit if his employees stopped delivering the company's gas tanks while wearing Spiderman suits.
"We don't want to take legal action against anyone who violates our intellectual copyrights," she said. "We are all Thai, but we can't let them do it because we are the authorised agent on behalf of Marvel Enterprises. We advised the owner to use monkey suits because monkeys don't have intellectual property rights." - Sapa-DPA
