Hong Kong - A woman suicide jumper landed on top of a pedestrian when she threw herself to her death in Hong Kong, police said on Saturday.

The jumper and pedestrian were taken to hospital where the woman, who had been suffering from post-natal depression, was declared dead, and the pedestrian was treated for head and shoulder injuries.

The 27-year-old woman jumped from the ninth-floor of a building in Hong Kong's Yuen Long district on Friday and struck a 40-year-old male passer-by as she plummeted to the ground.

Suicide rates in Hong Kong have shot up during the territory's drawn-out economic turndown. One person commits suicide every nine hours and jumping from high buildings is the most common method. - Sapa-DPA
