 Attack of the Star Wars 'clones'

Los Angeles - Two pirated versions of the latest Star Wars episode, Attack Of The Clones, hit the internet a week before the movie's official release, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Distribution of the pirated copies over file-sharing programs indicate Hollywood's growing problem with film piracy and is likely to spur legislative efforts to modify computers to deter unlawful copying, the report said.

The copies appear to have been made at advance screenings of the eagerly awaited movie, using digital cameras mounted on tripods.

While the bootlegged versions are not expected to affect box office revenues, they could severely impact on sales of videos and DVDs, experts were quoted as saying.

The pirating of the movie came despite unprecedented security measures taken in recent months by studios. A copy of Spiderman hit the web a day before the movie's cinematic release, and, in most cases, illegal versions of the latest Hollywood movies are distributed on the Internet at the same time the films debut in theatres. - Sapa-DPA
