Accra - Ghanaian security authorities said on Friday that four people were confirmed dead in the communal violence that broke out in the Northern Region capital Tamale earlier in the week.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) quoted the Regional Minister Ernest Kofi Debrah as saying 11 people were admitted to the Tamale Teaching Hospital with injuries. A soldier was also wounded in the clashes.
Debrah said 112 people suspected of being involved in the unrest had been arrested. The violence also made 250 people homeless and saw 25 houses burnt out. A number of bicycles and motorcycles were destroyed.
He said the security personnel seized two shotguns and a number of cartridges as well as locally manufactured pistols from combatants.

The government on Wednesday imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew with immediate effect on the Dagbon Traditional Area in the Northern Region following the communal clashes.
The government said the clashes, which started at Tamale, could spread to other parts in the traditional area, which was the scene of bloody chieftaincy battle in March last year that led to the death of some 30 people, including the King of the Dagbon traditional area.
The GNA quoted Interior Minister Hackman Owusu-Agyemang as saying the curfew would run from 18h00 to 06h00 local time for seven days.
Parliament on Wednesday unanimously approved a Resolution for the reimposition of a State of Emergency in the Dagbon Traditional Area. The vote was 155-0. - Sapa-dpa
