Sea Point swimming pool closed until further notice

Sea Point Pool will be closed while repairs are done.

Sea Point swimming pool is closed for repairs until further notice to repair damages caused by the storm and a subsequent fire last month, according to the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department.

In a media statement last week, the City said it will cost approximately R715 000 to repair.

“The railings between the pool and the sea have been destroyed together with the raw sea water pumps, electrical components, rim flow covers, baby pool tiles and paving, as well as various other areas of the facility.

“Two weeks after the storm, an electrical fire broke out, damaging the three main electrical boards.”

The City said Sea Point uses sea water for re-filling purposes and is the City’s most water-wise swimming pool.

Bathers are encouraged to use the City’s indoor swimming pools in the interim.

The Long Street indoor swimming pool in the city centre is currently the closest pool to Sea Point and is open daily between 7am and 7pm.
