I don’t know why Threnody, my secretary, didn’t remind me that last month marked the 21st anniversary of the World Wide Web. This is why Stoep Talk – the column so many turn to for illumination concerning baffling techno-bio advances such as the Higgs boson and non-stick frying pans – failed to salute Sir Tim Berners-Lee who created the first web page in HTML. (Stands and salutes while glaring at Threnody).
HTML, for those who don’t know, means “hyper text markup language”. What that means I have no idea.
Bic, purveyors of pens to journalists and traffic cops world-wide, has come out with a pen labelled “Bic for her”. They are quite shapely and are described as “amber medium pens”. Amber? To me they look mauve or lilac. But then, being male, I cannot really tell – only women can, for example, tell beige from light brown.
But women have greeted the female pens with derision.
