Absa branches located within shopping malls would be offering extended trading hours over the festive season, the group said on Friday.

Absa spokesman Arrie Rautenbach said customers would be able to make use of banking facilities on weekends until January 6, 2013.

Branches inside malls would be open for business between 8am and 2pm on Saturdays, and from 9-12pm on Sundays.

“Absa (committed to) making the lives of our customers easier. This is just one of the things we're doing to meet the banking needs of our customers,” he said in a statement.

The bank had decided to eliminate inter-account transfer and internal debit order fees to other Absa accounts from January 1, 2013.

Qualifying customers would also be able to make use of Potentiate, a financial solution that included an Apple iPad with a free data bundle and a technologically advanced bank card, Rautenbach said. - Sapa
