Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) was reviewing options for its Rustenburg operations, which were hit by the crippling five-month strike, the company said yesterday. Spokeswoman Mpumi Sithole said: “We expect to provide further details at the interims on July 21.” Britain’s Sunday Times reported at the weekend that parent Anglo American had put Amplats’s ageing platinum assets up for sale. Chief executive Chris Griffith said last week that the leading platinum producer was likely to end up losing R11 billion as a result of the strike. Amplats shares fell 0.31 percent to close at R461.07 on the JSE yesterday. – Reuters
