The Bench Marks Foundation was concerned by reports from workers at Lonmin’s Marikana mine alleging that the “agreed pay rise of 22 percent” had been discontinued after being paid only for the first month after a wildcat strike at the mine ended, the faith-based organisation said yesterday.

The company denied that agreed increases of up to 22 percent were not being paid.

The Bench Marks Foundation said there were further allegations that the “return to work bonus” paid to all workers was being deducted from salaries as if it was a loan.

It said it had asked the firm to clarify the issue.
