Pretoria - Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) chairperson Johan van Zyl, who is also the president and chief executive of Toyota Motor Europe, has been promoted to senior managing officer of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) of Japan.Van Zyl, who was promoted from managing officer, will be the first African to hold the position at TMC.

His appointment is effective from April 1 and comes two years after being appointed chief executive of Toyota Motor Europe.

Van Zyl started his career with TSAM in 1993 as the director of vehicle sales and dealer network and in 1995 was promoted to group marketing director with responsibility for all the company’s sales and marketing activities and in 1996 to managing director of vehicle marketing.

He was promoted to the position of managing director of Toyota SA Marketing in 1997 and a year later became president and chief operating officer of TSAM. BUSINESS REPORT
