It is with regret that Independent Media announces the resignation of its Chief Content Officer, Karima Brown, with effect from 31 July 2016.

Brown, who has decided to take leave of her position at Independent Media for personal reasons, has been integral to the transformation and change initiatives at Independent Media.

Executive Chairman of Independent Media, Dr Iqbal Survé, expressed his deep regret and thanked Brown for the invaluable role that she has played since the acquisition of Independent Media by the Sekunjalo-led consortium.

“Karima's departure is a great loss for Independent Media. She will remain a close friend, confidante and dear Comrade.

“I am forever grateful to Karima for her immense contribution to our vision and the transformation of the media in this country. Independent Media will always be a home for her”, said Dr Survé.

“I wish to thank Dr Survé for an invaluable opportunity to help shape the transformation agenda in the media, and for all the lessons learnt, fierce debates and the courage to be brave.

“I support Dr Surve on our insistence as black professionals that we deserve to tell our stories on our own terms and in our own words in the South African media. A multiplicity of narratives is not just possible but critical to the media transformation agenda”, said Brown.
