New CEO for ABB South Africa

Leon Viljoen has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer for ABB South Africa and manager for Southern Africa effective from 1 March 2013.

This follows the appointmen of current CEO Carlos Poñe as CEO of ABB United Arab Emirates (UAE) and manager of Southern Gulf (UAE‚ Qatar‚ Oman) and Pakistan‚ with effect from 1 February 2013‚ the power and automation technology group said on Monday.

Poñe has been employed by ABB for 20 years‚ 14 of which he served as CEO for South Africa and manager for Southern Africa. During this period he also served as the chairman of the ABB South Africa Board of Directors.

As Southern Africa manager‚ he has been responsible for growing ABB’s business within the developing countries of the African continent.

Viljoen joins ABB from Powertech where he was Chief Operating Officer.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical & Electronic) from the Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa and an MBA from Henley Management College in the UK. - I-Net Bridge
