A strike by Numsa at the Medupi power station, in Limpopo, will continue on Monday, the trade union said.

“There is nothing that has been said or suggested to satisfy workers, maybe tomorrow (Monday) will have something, but Eskom has not come with something that could push us (to stop striking),” National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) Medupi deputy secretary Seanego Ngakamone said on Sunday.

Construction of the R91 billion coal-fired power plant in Lephalale was suspended on Wednesday when workers embarked on an illegal strike.

The strike, which is enter a fourth day, could threaten Eskom's plan for the first six units of the 4764 megawatt power plant to deliver power by the end of the year.

Workers are demanding that Eskom do away with the existing project labour agreement in favour of the agreement in place when construction started years ago.

They claimed they were not being paid double pay on weekends, and that bonuses were being unfairly and unequally paid.

Workers were injured and a bus was burnt in a strike at the power station last year. - Sapa
