Tokyo - Toyota Motor Corporation said Wednesday that its group's global sales grew 4.5 per cent to 10.13 million vehicles in the previous financial year thanks to robust sales in China and the United States.

Toyota said its group's global production in the year through March rose 5.3 per cent to 10.24 million units.

It was the first time that the group's both global sales and production topped 10 million in a financial year.

The Toyota group, including Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors, saw its domestic sales grew 3.9 per cent to 2.4 million vehicles while its overseas sales climbed 4.7 per cent to 7.73 million.

In March, the world's largest carmaker saw its domestic sales jump 13.4 per cent from a year earlier to 322,252 units due mainly to last-minute buying before an increase in the nation's sales tax was introduced in April.
