Burger King is grappling with the trials and tribulations of social media after its Twitter account was hacked by a McDonald’s fan on Monday.

The branding of its Twitter page was changed to feature its fast-food rival’s meals, logo and Twitter name.

The Burger King Twitter account was suspended at noon after several posts, some racist and offensive, were made by the McDonald’s fan over several hours.

A Burger King spokesman said: “The Twitter account of Burger King® brand has been hacked. We apologise to our followers who have been receiving erroneous tweets about other members of our industry.”

McDonald’s denied involvement, saying: “Rest assured, we had nothing to do with the hacking.” – Daily Mail
