Raymond Parsons, the special policy adviser at Business Unity SA (Busa), said yesterday: “Business shares the concern expressed by Eskom regarding the vulnerability of electricity supply at present. Busa believes it has become imperative for both business and households to redouble their efforts to conserve electricity at a time when Eskom’s reserve margin is at a very low level. Greater energy efficiency even in the short term is essential if the economy is to avoid disruption to economic activity and employment. It is also clear that unstable labour relations are a threat to the successful roll-out of the infrastructure like electricity which the economy needs. Busa hopes processes can be found soon to unblock labour disruptions.”
