Business: Former FSB man in bribery claim

The former chief financial officer of the Financial Services Board (FSB), Dawood Seedat, had been accused of demanding millions of rands in bribes to make an audit disappear, The Star reported on Friday. In an affidavit, Africa Cash and Carry boss Edrees Ahmed Hathurani reportedly said he was told last June his business was being investigated by Seedat. Seedat reportedly told Hathurani he could use Sars and the FSB to close the business and told him to pay R12 million to a Sars consultant. Hathurani reportedly made several payments, including to Seedat. A Sars spokeswoman would not comment on whether there was an audit against Africa Cash and Carry. Seedat’s lawyer denied the allegations. – Sapa
