Johannesburg - The fraud trial of two former employees of the labour department's Compensation Fund was postponed in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Labour spokesman Page Boikanyo said witnesses scheduled to take the stand had fallen ill.
“The two State witnesses who were expected to testify did not make it to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court because they were ill,” department spokesman Page Boikanyo said.
The witnesses were to testify in a fraud case against Maxwell Ramaphosa and Samuel Mfeleng, both 36.
The two former Compensation Fund employees allegedly defrauded it of R2.1 million, Boikanyo said.
They allegedly processed and facilitated fraudulent claims submitted by physiotherapist Jurry Bonewamang Sehunoe.
Sehunoe pleaded guilty and received a five-year suspended jail sentence in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court in February.
Ramaphosa and Mfeleng face 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money laundering.
They are out on R3000 bail each, Boikanyo said.
