Eskom had obtained an interdict barring its workers from striking, the electricity supplier said yesterday. “Yes, Eskom has received a court interdict in the Labour Court preventing National Union of Metalworkers of SA [Numsa] workers from undertaking industrial action,” spokesman Andrew Etzinger said. Eskom workers affiliated to Numsa planned to picket outside the head office in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, today. They are demanding a 12 percent raise across the board, a R1 000 housing allowance and a R100 stand-by allowance. Numsa spokesman Castro Ngobese said the interdict would not stop the demonstration. – Sapa
