Voters formed a queue of about 800m in Freedom Park near Rustenburg yesterday. Among those who cast their votes, was Impala Platinum employee Thami Ncula. He said he was at the voting station at 2am. “We sat around a fire to keep warm. It was best for me to endure the chilly wind to be able to vote for the party of my choice early.” Freedom Park was one of the hotspots visited by Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa two weeks ago after violence broke out. It was calm yesterday and on Tuesday Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema urged residents to vote after there were claims that striking mineworkers intended to boycott the election. – Sapa
