Transformation in the liquor industry had been limited to the hiring of “tokens” with meaningful change elusive, the SA Liquor Traders’ Association (Salta) said yesterday. “Broad-based black economic empowerment must be an instrument to transform the industry, [but] it is not being applied to the fullest,” Salta president Saint Madlala said. Madlala said that while there were many black retailers of liquor, the distribution and supply chain aspects were still dominated by untransformed corporations. – Sapa
