Pretoria - Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, Africa’s biggest mall, re-opens its doors today following a massive R2.5 billion refurbishment.

“We’ve put together a fantastic tenant mix that caters to all our shoppers,” said Olive Ndebele, general manager of Menlyn Park.

The refurbishment and upgrade means the total lettable floor space of the mall is now 170 000m² and officially makes Menlyn Park the biggest mall on the continent.

Among the new stores available are Zara clothing, Fabiani menswear and H&M clothing. Hamleys will open its 100th international store at Menlyn Park.

Another major development is Central Park, an open-air piazza surrounded by popular restaurants such as the Hard Rock Cafe.

Among the mall’s anchor tenants are Checkers Hyper, Food Lovers Market, New World Discount Stores and Pick n Pay.

As an opening special, Menlyn Park will have the popular “Black Friday” event tomorrow where shoppers will enjoy massive discounts.

The mall will have a park-and-ride service at the Glenstantia Primary School from today until Sunday to avoid excessive parking congestion. The service will run every half hour between 8am to 5pm.

“We will offer shoppers every convenient service in order to improve their shopping experience with us,” Ndebele said.
