Protech Khuthele has in the past three months been awarded three contracts worth R350 million, increasing its order book to R1 billion. The listed construction group has been awarded a R285m contract by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to construct a new section of the R82 road between Walkerville and Eikenhof south of Johannesburg, and two waterworks contracts by Exxaro Resources worth R65m, which include a stormwater channel and a wastewater treatment works at Grootegeluk coal mine in Lephalale. Antony Page, Protech Khuthele’s chief executive, said yesterday that the wastewater treatment project marked the group’s entry into the civils and concrete sector. The group anticipated the stormwater channel, which commenced in June, and the wastewater treatment project would both be completed by March next year. “The implementation of the group’s strategic turnaround is progressing well and we are beginning to see the fruits of everyone’s efforts,” Page said. The stock surged 5.66 percent to close at 56c yesterday. – Roy Cokayne
