Johannesburg - South Africa's trade deficit narrowed more than expected to R6.57 billion in May, from a R13.03 billion shortfall in April, data from the South African Revenue Service showed on Monday.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a trade gap of R12.5 billion for May.
Exports rose by 0.6 percent to R78.36 billion, while imports decreased by 5.9 percent to R84.93 billion. The latest data brings the cumulative deficit for 2014 to R47.13 billion compared with R34.56 billion over the same period in 2013.
