Sick workers to seek R1m each

Workers who contracted silicosis after working on South African mines owned by companies including Anglo American might seek at least R1 million each in damages, a lawyer representing them said yesterday.

Richard Spoor, the lawyer who filed an application against 30 mining companies including Harmony Gold Mining, said there might be more than 200 000 former miners with silicosis throughout southern Africa. – Bloomberg
