During his swearing in as Ghana's president yesterday, John Dramani Mahama called for unity in the country as he promised to give more people access to opportunities in west Africa's second-biggest economy.

The 54-year-old was sworn in at the seaside Black Star Square in Accra.

Former Bank of Ghana governor Kwesi Amissah-Arthur took the vice-presidential oath.

“Ghana should and will be a place where economic opportunities are available to everyone,” Mahama said. Mahama won the December election with 50.7 percent of votes. His victory is being contested by opposition candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, who boycotted the inauguration. - Reuters
