They say money can’t buy you love. And now it seems another lottery-winning couple has broken up thanks to the strain of handling their new-found wealth.

David and Angela Dawes won a EuroMillions jackpot worth £101 million (R1.65 billion) two years ago. But according to members of their family, they are living apart – with relatives blaming the split on rows over how to spend the windfall.

While some in the family maintain the couple is still together, others say former factory supervisor Mr Dawes, 49, has even frozen some of the funds to stop his 46-year-old wife accessing them.

Mr and Mrs Dawes moved from a £70-a-week flat in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, to a £9m Surrey mansion after their win in October 2011.

News of the split comes just a week after another couple, Adrian and Gillian Bayford, announced that they were divorcing because of the “stress” of winning £148m.

Mr Bayford has denied running over his gardener with a buggy after finding out about his alleged affair with his wife.

Camelot, the company behind EuroMillions, said only 2 percent of winners had separated from their partner since winning a major prize – with 99 percent claiming to be as happy as, or happier than, before their win.

A spokesman added: “We have a dedicated team of winners’ advisers who look after all our major jackpot winners.” – Daily Mail
