Tokyo stocks close up

Tokyo stocks closed 1.77 percent higher on Monday as investors cheered a weekend election victory for Greece's two main pro-bailout parties, easing fears Athens may drop out of the eurozone.

The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 151.70 points to 8,721.02, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares was up 1.68 percent, or 12.24 points, at 738.81. - Sapa-AFP
