New York - US stocks Monday opened higher ahead of a busy week of economic data and retail sector earnings reports.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 60.91 (0.38 percent) to 16,164.21.
The broad-based S&P 500 added 7.47 (0.41 percent) at 1,843.72, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 17.31 (0.41
percent) to 4,280.72.
Monday's calendar was quiet, but the next few days will see several major data points, including the Conference Board's index of US consumer confidence and the second estimate of fourth-quarter economic growth.
