Maize falls for first time in 4 weeks

Johannesburg - Maize in South Africa dropped for the first week in four on the South African Futures Exchange.

White maize for delivery in December decreased 1.1 percent this week to 1,840 rand a metric ton by the midday close.

Yellow maize for delivery in the same month also fell for the first week in four, declining 1.2 percent to 1,913 rand a ton.

South Africa is the largest producer of the grain on the continent.

Meal from white maize is used to make a staple food known as pap.

The yellow variety is mainly used for animal feed. - Bloomberg News
