White maize rises to two-week high

Johannesburg - Maize in South Africa, the continent’s largest producer of the grain, rose to the highest level in more than two weeks.

White maize for delivery in July gained 0.7 percent to 1,710 rand a metric ton, the highest for the contract since July 9 by the midday close on the South African Futures Exchange.

The yellow variety for delivery in December increased 0.9 percent to 1,876 rand a ton, gaining for a third straight day.

Meal from white maize is used to make a staple food known as pap.

The yellow variety is used for animal feed.

Wheat for delivery in December gained 1.5 percent to 3,550 rand a ton. - Bloomberg News
