Amsterdam - Dutch shoppers flocked to the opening of their country's first Apple store in Amsterdam on Sunday, ahead of the US company's expected launch of its new iPad3 tablet on Wednesday.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook will make his first major product announcement since the death of founder Steve Jobs last year but the company has not confirmed if this will be the new iPad.

The technology giant behind the iPhone and iPod is ramping up the expansion of its stores, which already number over 360 worldwide.

Apple is set to open a new London concession at department store Harrods in Knightsbridge later this month. - The Independent
