London - Brad Pitt has joined China’s version of Twitter and hinted he could be heading to Beijing for the first time.
Pitt, who has been banned from entering the country because of his role in the movie Seven Years In Tibet, signed up to the Sina Weibo account this week.
And his mysterious first tweet has drawn thousands of comments. The actor’s verified account sent the message: “It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming.”
That was forwarded more than 31,000 times and netted over 14,000 comments, many expressing surprise.
Pitt has since gathered more than 140,000 followers. The actor was banned from ever entering China because of his portrayal of the young Dalai Lama’s Austrian tutor in the 1997 film.
The Chinese foreign ministry took issue with the film’s sympathetic portrayal of the 14th Dalai Lama and the negative depictions of Chinese soldiers in Tibet.
Director Jean-Jacques Annaud was also banned but was welcomed back to China last year to chair the jury at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Weibo has 400 million registered users and an increasing amount of celebrities have taken to it for social marketing purposes. - Daily Mail
