Durban - Joy was the feeling running through most Vodacom customers’ fingers on Sunday when the network gave each of them 1 gigabyte of data.

The gift was a “no-strings-attached” move by Vodacom which lasted only for the day.

Fast forward to Monday and depression quickly replaced the happiness as customers went on to social media to discuss the lack of network from the service provider.

Most customers complained about not being able to make any outgoing calls or receive incoming calls, send messages and use their applications.

Others complained that they could not use the free data because of network problems.

Vodacom spokesman Richard Boorman said the network had had software and connectivity “issues”.

He said that by Monday afternoon customers had started to regain their network.

The 1gigabyte ended at midnight on Sunday. This network problem cropped up on Monday morning. There is no direct link between the two,” he said. – Mercury Correspondent
