Los Angeles - Grand Theft Auto 5, so far restricted to the XBox 360 and the Playstation 3, is coming later this year to regular Windows computers, Rockstar Games says.

The world's most successful gangster drama will be upgraded to operate on the PC, the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One.

Developer Rockstar Games says the game has undergone a graphics facelift, but that gameplay on the new platforms stays unchanged.

Prices and the release date in the northern autumn have not been set.

Grand Theft Auto 5 tells the story of three car thieves - Michael, Trevor and Franklin - living in the fictional Los Angeles suburb of Los Santos and follows them through a series of heists.

Players can easily switch between the very different characters any time they want.

There's also an online mode, which will remain available in the updated version.
