London - Almost one in ten Facebook profiles are fake, it emerged on Thursday.
It means misuse of the social network by paedophiles and con artists could be even more prevalent than previously thought.
According to company filings, around 8.7 percent – 83.09 million – of its 955 million active users are not real.
Facebook said 4.8 percent of profiles are duplicates and 2.4 percent are “user-misclassified”, such as profiles created for a business or pet.
But 1.5 percent are “undesirable” profiles, suspected of violating the site’s rules, such as by sending out spam. - Daily Mail
