London - She has never been afraid to speak her mind. But Emma Thompson has ruled out ever saying a word on Twitter.

Along with Facebook, it was in the process of “killing a generation” that is obsessed with being “connected” 24 hours a day, she said.

Asked if she would ever consider joining the world’s 230 million Twitter users, the 55-year-old actress said she would “rather have root canal treatment for the rest of my life “.

“That’s not my scene at all,” Miss Thompson told US magazine Vanity Fair. “I can’t bear the thought of being connected all the time. God knows what it’s all doing to us.

“I hope everyone realises that we are all one giant human experiment at the moment.

“We are just a great big bunch of little gerbils on wheels.”

Miss Thompson, who has a 14-year-old daughter, questioned the long-term effects of allowing children to use Facebook, fearing that they would eventually “chuck themselves of a cliff like lemmings” because of the stress of their lives being constantly exposed.

Asked if she had ever Googled herself to see what people had written about her, she replied: “Putting my head in the toilet and flushing it repeatedly would be a more cleansing experience.” - Daily Mail
