SA budget deficit target seen at 4.2%

Johannesburg - South African Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will present his government budget statement to parliament at 2pm on Wednesday.

The median consensus of 17 economists polled by Reuters is for a budget deficit forecast of 4.2 percent of gross domestic product for the 2014/15 fiscal year, which begins on April 1, only slightly wider than the 4.1 percent gap Gordhan forecast in his interim budget in October.

Economists expect the Treasury forecast for the current year's shortfall to remain unchanged at 4.2 percent of GDP. - Reuters
