Union hails Gordhan’s vows on NDP and UIFComment on this story
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan's Budget was welcomed by the United Association of South Africa (Uasa) on Wednesday.
“Gordhan presented a balanced and constructive national Budget, aimed at taking South Africa forward,” the union said in a statement.
This was within the convention of Budget speeches in election years being traditionally rather conservative.
“Uasa is satisfied with and views as positive the emerging detail on the implementation of the National Development Plan and the funding thereof.”
The union was pleased with measures aimed at addressing environmental problems associated with acid mine drainage and the R105 billion allocated for water sanitation and other municipal services.
“These will go a long way towards water security, an urgent matter Uasa has emphasised repeatedly over the past four years.”
The union also welcomed the announcement that the number of days for which the Unemployment Insurance Fund could be claimed was increased from 238 to 365 days, on condition the claimant could prove they were actively seeking work. - Sapa
