Consumer Goods Council SA chief executive Mncane Mthunzi has resigned to join Massmart, the council board said on Thursday.

“It is with mixed feelings to notify you that our CEO, Mncane Mthunzi, will be leaving the employment of the CGCSA at the end of August 2011,” the council said in a statement. Massmart is 51 percent owned by US retail gaint WalMart.

He will join Massmart on September 1 as group supplier development executive.

“Under his leadership, the CGCSA has returned to a solid financial position while strengthening its service offerings,” the council said.

General manager of corporate services, Mapule Ncanywa, will be acting CEO until the position is filled.

Mthunzi, who joined the Consumer Goods Council in 2009, was previously managing director of the Black Management Forum.

According to its website, the chairman of the Consumer Goods Council is Grant Pattison, who is also CEO of Massmart Holdings. - Sapa
