Exxaro strikes spread to five mines

Strikes at three coal mines had spread to two more collieries, Exxaro Resources said yesterday. Production had ceased at Inyanda yesterday, and at Leeuwpan on Saturday, Exxaro said. The strikes over non-payment of bonuses that had started at the Arnot and Matla operations continued, as had the stoppage at the Grootegeluk colliery. “The strikes are still on and they are intensifying,” National Union of Mineworkers branch secretary Mxolisi Hoboyi said. The stock rose 1.83 percent to R169.90 yesterday. – Bloomberg
