Nampak Glass capacity to double by next year

Comment on this story

Nampak plans to double production capacity at its glass-making unit by January next year as it seeks to become a more dominant player in South Africa. The company would add a third furnace to its existing glass production line at a cost of R1 billion, doubling the capacity to 200 000 tons, Nampak investor relations manager Graham Hayward said on Friday. “We have a 20 percent market share on the glass side in South Africa. Some customers want us to become a bigger supplier,” he said. Production of cans would increase by almost 1 billion units after investment in a new high speed aluminium line, Hayward said. “The conversion process is from tinplate to aluminium. It will help increase recycling,” he said. Nampak shares rose 0.98 percent to close at R31.95 on Friday. – Bloomberg
