Johannesburg - The petrol price is projected to increase by about 37 cents a litre in February, the latest calculation released by the department of energy on Wednesday showed.

The department is also projecting that diesel with 0.05% sulphur will increase by 16 cents a litre and diesel with 0.005% sulphur will increase by 15 cents a litre.

The price of paraffin is projected to increase by 22 cents a litre.

The depreciation of the rand exchange rate coupled with higher oil prices are responsible for the increases.

The department of energy is exepected to make the announcement of the official price changes on Friday with the prices effective on Wednesday, February 6. - IOL
