The government's announcement that land claims from before 1913 would reopen had created great uncertainty and huge expectations, Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Mulder said yesterday.

Speaking at the second day of debate in the National Assembly on last week's State of the Nation address, he asked why such an announcement had been made “before all the details had been thought through”. Mulder, who serves as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in the cabinet, said uncertainty about land reform had persisted for 19 years. - Sapa
