SA unemployment rate falls to 25%

The latest official jobs data shows that SA's unemployment rate decreased to 25% in the third quarter from 25.7% in the second quarter, Statistics SA said on Tuesday.

Employment rose by 193,000 in the third quarter, the Pretoria-based agency said as it released its Quarterly Labour Force Survey.

Stats SA said that formal sector employment had increased by 238,000 jobs while informal sector employment had decreased by 53,000 jobs.

Employment in agriculture rose by 26,000 and fell by 19,000 in private households in the third quarter.

The expanded employment rate went down by 0.9 of a percentage point from 36.9% in the second quarter to 36% in the third quarter. - I-Net Bridge
