TMG editors to be shunted out in title shuffle

Business Times, the financial news supplement of the Sunday Times, is set to lose its editor Marcia Klein in what appears to be part of a major shake-up at Times Media Group (TMG), which publishes the weekend newspaper.

 Business Report has been reliably informed of Klein’s impending departure but it is not clear when her move becomes effective or whether she will remain with the company.

Klein has been editing Business Times since 2010.

TMG officials were not immediately available for comment. A source within the company said “there are quite a lot of people who have been given the same order” to step down.

The development takes place against a backdrop of a wider reshuffle at the former Avusa.

It was announced last week that Sunday Times editor Ray Hartley will be succeeded by Phylicia Oppelt, current editor of The Times, in March. BDFM, in which TMG is a part-owner, recently initiated a voluntary retrenchment process.

TMG shares closed 5c higher at R13.85 yesterday. – Asha Speckman
