A ruling party must be worried about unemployment, poverty and inequalities, ANC President Jacob Zuma said on Tuesday.

“We are saying the ruling party has a policy conference and must discuss these issues, and if we don't we will be failing the poor. We cannot do that.”

Zuma was explaining the ANC draft policy document on the “second transition” at the ANC's four-day policy conference in Midrand.

He said with the document the ANC realised the country was faced with problems and the policy conference had to provide solutions.

Turning to crime, he said: “Killing a person in South Africa has become a simple thing. Our crime is violent; something is wrong with our society.”

The party's elective conference, to be held in Mangaung in December, will adopt resolutions from this policy conference for implementation. - Sapa
