Adapt IT: KZN school gets computer boost

Adapt IT launched its first Knowledge Centre on Tuesday, providing computer access to more than 1 400 children and 45 educators in Amaoti, KwaZulu-Natal’s largest informal settlement, the JSE-listed company said yesterday. The initiative was a joint venture between Adapt IT and Angel Projects, including training firm Africa Learn and the Department of Basic Education. Adapt IT funded the computer and internet training facility at Zwakele Primary, which comprises 50 computers, and repainted and refurnished the classroom. Chief executive Sbu Shabalala said the group planned to continue rolling out computer labs. Results earlier this year showed revenue grew 53 percent to R135.9 million and headline earnings a share rose 35 percent to R8.35 in the six months to December. The stock gained 1.96 percent to R2.60 yesterday. – Asha Speckman
